HOW THE PUMP JET CAME TO BE In early 1990, the U. S. Department of Defense recognized the need to develop an outboard motor which permitted boat training and operations to be conducted in a safe and reliable manner at both night and in daylight with men and women in the water.
Previous attempts to adapt cages and guards to protect open propellers resulted in unacceptable performance losses and decreased engine reliability. Under contract with the Department of Defense, A.C.T., Inc. developed patented Pump Jet technology to meet this need. A.C.T., Inc. is the original manufacturer of the Pump Jet since 1990. Design and manufacturing support by A.C.T., Inc. [Orlando FL] and Hall Machine Co. [Princeton NJ] led to the innovative and adaptive alternative to the open propeller outboard motor - the Pump Jet. Manufacturing operations began in 1990. In December 2022, RESCUE SOUTH purchased all assets of A.C.T., Inc., relocating Pump Jet Manufacturing and Warranty Service to Canton, North Carolina (Haywood County). RESCUE SOUTH and its members are proud to provide the best and most reliable Pump Jet product on a USA-manufactured outboard and are committed to quality service and satisfaction for our customers throughout the world.
